Canadian DB plan sponsors reaping benefits of global diversification during Q2 2026: expert
Canadian defined benefit pension plan sponsors are benefiting from global diversification strategies at a time when private markets are performing more modestly, says Grant Johnsey, head of market solutions for the Americas at Northern Trust.
“Given some relative underperformance [in private markets] . . . Canadian pensions might rethink that and move some money back to public markets. I don’t see that yet, but that’s something I’m keeping an eye on.”
A report by the organization found the median Canadian DB pension plan reported a 6.6 per cent return during the second quarter of 2026.
