OPINION | BRENDA LOOPER: Law of letters
It's been a while since I've talked about the Voices page, so let's dive in.
One reader says he's noticed an extreme shift to the left since Rex Nelson became Voices editor, and that "something has obviously happened to make him shift as far to the left as he has shifted and to basically eliminate any conservative posts in the letters."
Well.
For starters, Rex is not, nor has he ever been, Voices editor. Frankly, I'm not sure when he sleeps because he already does so much for this paper. And he still manages to be one of the nicest people you could ever meet. He's also a true conservative, which used to be what the Republican Party was. I'm not quite sure what it is now, but I don't think my old-school Republican grandma would recognize it anymore were she still alive.
As for the leftward lean of the Voices page letters, that's simply a function of who writes the most letters. I've practically begged for conservative letters here, and on my Facebook and Threads feeds, but I'm still lucky if I receive two to five conservative letters a week (I'm talking about political letters, as there are conservative letter-writers out there who sometimes don't talk about politics).
It's not something that just happens here, either. Stephen Buckley, public editor of the Dallas Morning News, published........
