How peculiar that the first nation in history founded on the principle of human freedom should celebrate its 250th birthday at a time when it is experiencing a surge in support for the great historical enemy of human freedom, socialism.

We are talking, of course, about the ongoing takeover of the Democratic Party by the Democratic Socialists of America, as demonstrated in the impressive victories by their candidates over Democratic incumbents in recent New York primaries.

The DSA candidates endorsed by socialist mayor Zohran Mamdani aren't the warm, fuzzy Scandinavian-style social democrats that have populated the Democratic Party since roughly the New Deal (in mislabeled American terminology, called "liberals" or "Progressives"); to the contrary, they are dedicated Bolsheviks extolling "the warmth of collectivism" and seething with hatred for private property and American capitalism more broadly.

They are much closer ideologically to Fidel Castro than to Barack Obama.

One of the DSA congressional candidates, Darializa Avila Chevalier, who won her race over a five-term Democratic incumbent, has called for the "eradication" of Western civilization and bragged about using an American flag as a napkin (a stance which suggests she wasn't waving many sparklers a couple of days ago). Another, Aber Kawas, who won a primary for the state senate, has claimed that America........
