We live in a technological age. We have access to information anytime and anywhere. When used properly, that technology brings people together in ways that were impossible 20 years ago. But there are also significant risks--particularly for children and teens--and it is time to enact proactive protections for children online, especially on social media and AI platforms.

Social media use is nearly ubiquitous among teenagers, and approximately one in three teens say they use it almost constantly. But there is no longer any doubt that social media and AI technology hurts kids. Multiple studies have found that when a 13-year-old establishes a TikTok account, the platform recommends suicide-related videos in as little as two and a half minutes and eating disorder content in less than eight minutes.

In March, juries in New Mexico and Los Angeles found Facebook and Instagram's owner, Meta, liable for harming children's mental health and concealing what it knew about child sexual exploitation on........
