Cotton, Hill still evading constituent’s questions
Last month I wrote a guest column suggesting Sen. Tom Cotton and Rep. French Hill would hide in the men's room rather than answer a reporter's questions about whether they supported or opposed a long list of policies of President Donald Trump. I listed two dozen examples that both men have remained completely silent on, actions that covered the unconstitutional, the illegal, the unethical and the immoral.
I can share that both politicians read this newspaper, the best paper between the coasts. Suffice to say they didn't like my guest piece, as both have reached out to me.
Let's start with Senator Cotton. His D.C.-based press secretary, Hannah McCarthy, called me after my guest piece ran. She shared that the senator didn't appreciate it; why did I write it and what did I want? Easy, I told her, I just need my two dozen questions answered, questions which I also submitted in a formal constituent letter. She promised to try to get my questions answered. To date she has not done so. I asked her if the problem was that the senator didn't believe people back home deserved to know his positions on the president's actions. Ms. McCarthy didn't take any issue with that observation.
