Guest Column: WIFA augmentation projects protect the Colorado River
For generations, life along the Colorado River has defined who we are in western Arizona. The river sustains our farms, our communities, and our economy. It feeds the fields that feed the nation. It is our lifeblood. So, when discussions arise about projects intending to bring “new water” to the State, it is natural that communities from San Luis to Bullhead City listen closely – and sometimes with understandable concern.
As chairman of the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority of Arizona (WIFA), and as someone who calls Yuma County home, I am working personally to ensure WIFA’s goal is to strengthen Arizona’s overall water portfolio so that our state’s growth and security do not depend on squeezing more from a river that already sustains so much.
