'While the hospitals are crumbling, the Senedd is looking after itself'
Wales Online readers are voicing their opinions on the recent revelation that tenders are now being invited for a new 120,000 sq ft headquarters for the Senedd Commission in Cardiff Bay. The governing body of the Welsh Parliament is seeking proposals for a fresh office space to supersede its current domicile at Ty Hywel - a building from the '90s featuring red brick architecture and connected to the Senedd's debating chamber through an enclosed footbridge.
The existing contract with Ty Hywel's proprietors, Equitix, is set to expire by 2032. Notably, the agreement incurs an annual rent of £2.3 million, VAT not included.
An ultimate verdict on the tender will be forthcoming later this year, although bids are welcome until the approaching month concludes. The publicised tender document clarifies: "The Senedd is seeking to procure accommodation of approximately 11,000 sq mts (around 120,000 sq ft), with at least 90% of its capacity in close proximity to the existing Senedd building" and highlights that: "The accommodation must allow for all required direct infrastructure links........
