I deleted social media – and got my real life back
I finally did it. When the pop-up window asked whether to delete or cancel, I chose delete, and Instagram suddenly left my life forever. Glory, glory, hallelujah.
Not that I have anything specifically against Meta and Mark Zuckerberg. But I do have a lot against rage-baiting, doomscrolling, AI-generated mush, and Insta influencers who wouldn’t know reality if it stripped them of all their filters.
I’ve now left all that behind, and as Lindsey Buckingham said, I’m never going back again.
Are Americans starting to sour on social media?
I’m not alone. A recent survey found that more than half of Americans say they post less on social media now than they did five years ago, and almost half have deleted a social media or messaging app because the platform triggered anxiety and stress.
It seems Americans’ toxic love affair with social media is, if not ending, then at least cooling off.
