Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and X (formerly Twitter) and general nuisance, became the world’s first trillionaire on June 12 following SpaceX’s historic debut on the stock market. SpaceX is now valued at more than $2 trillion, closing its first day with shares at $161.11, a 20% increase in the initial public offering price.
Since its initial public offering, Musk’s fortune has only grown. According to Bloomberg, he was worth $1.27 trillion as of June 15 – more than the next four people’s fortunes combined: Alphabet cofounders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Oracle cofounder Larry Ellison.
To put it in perspective: Musk has so much money, Bezos, who is worth $267 billion, is now closer in wealth to the average American than he is to Musk. Yeah, it’s that much money.
So while 10.6% of the United States was living in poverty in 2024 and 24% of the country’s households were living paycheck to paycheck in 2025, the world’s richest man is now........
