With all the soap-opera hysterics this week over the firing of Scott Pelley, there has been an odd paradox among those claiming this represents the demise of journalism, free speech, and democracy as we know it. It has been an odd reality that many of those who claim to love the institution of “60 Minutes” are, at the same time, so angered by Bari Weiss that they are calling for a boycott of CBS entirely, effectively rooting for the demise of the program.
Well, these drama kings and queens are in for disappointment, as one result they had been cheering for has been dashed. In a letter, the remaining correspondents — Leslie Stahl, Bill Whitaker, and Jon Wertheim — have announced that they will remain on staff for the sake of the integrity of the program.
