New York Democrats are attempting to subvert the purpose and spirit of New York's campaign finance law. And yes, you've seen this movie before.

As the Times Union’s Emilie Munson reported, Gov. Kathy Hochul and the state Legislature reached a tentative deal, secretively tucked into the budget, that would make a landmark campaign finance law more helpful to incumbents and less beneficial to challengers.

One change would increase the share of bigger campaign contributions eligible for public matching money. Currently, only contributions up to $250 receive a public match, but under the planned change, the first $250 of contributions up to $1,050 would receive supplementary public........
