Commentary: When Trump betrays Ukraine, he betrays democracy

When Russia first invaded Ukraine three long years ago, Europe counted on the United States as one of its strongest allies in the fight against Russian aggression. Since then, the Russian invasion has escalated into the largest and deadliest conflict in Europe since World War II. By some estimates, it has claimed nearly one million lives.

In recent weeks, Russia has attacked Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, launched over 300 attacks on settlements in the country’s southeast, and targeted civilian structures with a massive airstrike. This violence is senseless, and the aggressor is indisputable.

Amid this escalation, President Donald Trump had the gall to falsely suggest that Ukraine started the war, even going so far as to call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a dictator. Not........
