Letters: Bethlehem schools should drop Megyn Kelly from its Hall of Fame

I’m writing to express my concerns about Megyn Kelly’s inclusion in the Bethlehem Central School District Hall of Fame. If her 2018 remarks defending the use of blackface weren’t offensive enough, her recent claim that Jeffrey Epstein was “not a pedophile” because his victims were 15 or so, rather than 8 or 9, should prompt her removal.
It’s hard to imagine that anyone believes sexual predators victimizing 15-year-olds is acceptable — or anything but illegal. The age of consent in New York state is 17.
This is hardly someone who should be honored by a school district whose mission is to ensure the safety and well-being of its students. The Bethlehem Central School District should take appropriate steps to remove Kelly from its Hall of Fame.

The Times Union Editorial Board was right to note the elephant in the room regarding local elections in its editorial “Not many choices on your ballot” (Nov. 12). But the issue isn’t resolved by assuming voters are content with incumbents who face no opposition. There is no shortage of capable, civic-minded individuals willing to serve — only a shortage of funding to help them compete. Running for office costs money, and many good candidates simply lack the deep pockets that even local campaigns demand.
Fortunately, there’s a solution: Expand New York’s public campaign financing........
