LeBrun: Let’s tidy up our own yard

It’s impossible to take our minds off the reckless disregard for your life and mine going on in Washington at the moment. But there’s little point in getting agitated over what remains a multiple disaster in progress that still has a stretch to go, and that we are powerless to alter anyway.
Not for now. But do hold that thought and bottle that fury until the next election of consequence. In the meantime, more and bigger street protests are good anger releases and do get the nervous attention of the spineless political class. Boycotting anything associated with the current administration in terms of major corporate donors needs to be ramped up too. Bye bye, Tesla.

So. Back to what is in our collective domain of influence: the state of New York, which has a lot of its own issues to straighten out, and they don’t all depend on Washington.
The annual state budget is late. No big deal. In fact, understandable. With nearly a third of a projected $282 billion budget dependent on federal dollars, getting clarity on what we might or might not get would be most helpful for what would otherwise be an interim academic exercise. And still may prove to be, no longer how long we wait.
