LeBrun: Is NYC ready for Cuomo?

With all the suspense of whether or not the garbage truck will show up this week, Andrew Cuomo finally announced he’s running for mayor of New York City.
This settles at least for the moment that we won’t have to dip into Kathy Hochul’s “Make Albany Great Again” fund in order to build a moat around the governor’s mansion to keep Cuomo from trying to storm back in. He has wisely figured out what may be pulled off down in Gotham, where fooling just enough of the people much of the time has history, and doing the same statewide does not.

So we’ve been given a reprieve of sorts, although pray for our brothers and sisters downstate. They’re in for a ride. They just don’t know it yet.
But what is well known by now is that Cuomo launched his campaign with a 17-minute video. Using all the traditional tricks of an advertising campaign, the video promotes a real or manufactured dire need — to save the city — and the product that can do the trick – himself. Along the way, he bloats his accomplishments to preen his feathers, which admittedly is a standard operating procedure for most politicians.
