Commentary: The state Supreme Court system needs more judges. But how they're assigned matters.

There is a growing statewide crisis in the New York state Supreme Court. Whether it’s litigating a personal injury case, medical malpractice, a matrimonial case, a commercial claim or a myriad of other cases before our state’s highest trial level court, the public is waiting years before cases can be heard.
This is a result of rising backlogs caused by skyrocketing caseloads and too few judges to hear them. Simply put: The courts lack the full capacity to hear your case.

The state constitution currently provides for the creation of one Supreme Court justice for every 50,000 citizens.
