The Conspiracy Behind Israeli Media Is a Sysadmin
You are reading this on The Times of Israel, but a company you have probably never heard of put the page in front of you. It drew the layout, wrote the code, and owns the server the page came off. The same company, on the same publishing system it built, does every bit of that for 972 Magazine — the far-left, anti- or non-Zionist outfit that gave the world the “twenty seconds per target” figure from its Lavender reporting on the war in Gaza. So this post is being served to you by the company it is about. Stay with me. It gets stranger.
The company is RGB Media. The letters are three people, Ronen, Grig, and Biranit, who spent their careers inside Israeli newsrooms before they started building digital infrastructure for them. Some fifteen years after launching their company, they are still, in their own words, the digital department for The Times of Israel. Their system has a name, Salamandra, and if you scroll to the bottom of 972mag.com you will find it in the footer next to RGB’s own. I did not get this from their sales page. I read it out of the code the two sites serve, which is a more reliable witness than a brochure.
Pull on the client list and the coincidence hardens into a genre. The same group has built Israel Hayom, the free daily that reliably carries water for the prime minister, and 972, which would not carry his water to help put out a fire in a children’s home. It has run an evangelical-Zionist news site and, for a stretch, a Syrian war blog called Al-Masdar that rarely found an Assad offensive it could not explain. It builds The Seventh Eye, whose entire job is watching Israeli media for exactly this kind of entanglement. It builds a Gaza-access “human-rights NGO” and a wall of Jewish........
