The conflict with Iran exposes a persistent weakness in Western policy. When the strikes taper off, markets steady and foreign ministries recover the language of negotiation, many governments announce that prudence has prevailed. Tehran reads the same scene as an operational opportunity. Every pause hands the theocratic dictatorship the resource it knows best how to use: time to repair installations, conceal arsenals, reorganize commands and prepare the next cycle of aggression.

The West measures success in days without missiles, open sea lanes and contained energy prices. The Islamic Republic measures its survival in decades. The gap between those two clocks allows a truce to become an Iranian victory after severe military losses. The regime of the ayatollahs absorbs sanctions, replaces commanders, sacrifices its subordinates and waits for Washington’s democratic impatience to prevail. Its strategic patience feeds on Western relief. Terrorists are shrewd; they play by the rules of democracy.

The outlet published on July 29, 2026 shows the speed of that adaptation. Reuters, citing three sources familiar with the agreement, reported that Iran expects a first shipment of up to 400 Chinese man-portable air defense systems under a contract valued at 60 to 70 million dollars, signed through Zhongqing Baoshang International Investment, a Hong Kong intermediary. The Chinese Foreign Ministry called the report groundless. Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations rejected any role in the transit route.
