Life Is a Journey: The Secret Hidden in Mattos-Masei — An Important Message for Each One of Us
What do speech and travel have to do with each other?
At first glance, not much.
Parshas Mattos begins by teaching us about the power of our words. The Torah reminds us that speech is not something casual. What we say matters. Words can build, words can hurt, words can bring people closer, and words can create distance.
Then we come to Parshas Masei, and the Torah seems to move in a completely different direction. It lists the forty-two places where Bnei Yisrael camped during their forty years in the desert.
One stop after another.
For many of us, those names are difficult to pronounce and even harder to understand. Why does the Torah spend so much time recording what seems to be an old travel log?
The Baal Shem Tov reveals that these journeys are not only the story of our ancestors.
They are the story of every one of us.
The forty-two journeys of Bnei Yisrael represent the different stages that every person goes through in life.
We all have our own Mitzrayim—the things we need to leave behind in order to grow.
We all have our own........
