NSW Labor should not be standing in the way of extra powers for police watchdog

The NSW Police Force operates in some of the toughest circumstances, including putting their own lives on the line to keep the rest of us safe. Increasing rates of domestic violence, the rising terrorist threat and ballooning crime rates in the regions means policing has never been more challenging.

At the same time, the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission is a necessary watchdog to provide confidence that the NSW Police Force is not beyond scrutiny.

The LECC is an independent body that detects, investigates and exposes serious misconduct within the NSW Police. It is as important to policing as the Independent Commission Against Corruption is to the public sector and........
