When the work crews arrive in your Staten Island neighborhood | The Old Guy

I know Con Ed…the work has to be done.

After all, we wouldn’t want to lose power, like we did in 2006. Or 2012. Or 2013. Or 2019. And 2021.

There was a power outage in 2013, but that was due to Sandy, the hurricane that nearly blew Staten Island and all the other boroughs off the face of the Earth. Luckily, we survived. Some folks are still waiting for the money to restore their homes.

So, yes, we all agree that the work has to be done and should be done in a timely fashion before another giant storm causes further damage.

You’ll have to forgive me Con Ed if I wasn’t overjoyed to see your trucks and cars parked up and down Beach, taking up the few available parking spots left. How I was dismayed to find myself and my neighbors parked halfway down Jackson. How I grew tired of the colors orange and yellow and the men waving signs that said either SLOW or STOP.

We get it. Men working. Vehicles up ahead.

Here’s what you have to understand: Our neighborhood has been dealing with disruptions for nearly a solid year now. It started last July when building commenced on the four two family townhouses that went up in the lot........
