The Old Guy: My post-election thoughts
They didn’t pick up the trash Tuesday morning.
I thought that was odd and then I remembered it was Election Day. Joan and I had voted on Oct. 26.

It looked like a nice day for a walk, so Joan and I walked down to Tappen Park and went shopping for some household items. The sky was bright blue with not a cloud in sight. There was a breeze, but it was 72 degrees, very warm for the Novembers of my memory. We wound up driving to Forest Avenue and picking up lunch as Pastosa’s. We ate while watching something funny on TV.
I took a nap around three. I’ve been doing that lately. I just don’t seem to have enough energy to get through a day. When I got up, we ate dinner, then watched “Ghosts” for awhile.
Around 10:30 p.m., I started watching the election results. By 11 p.m., when Jon Stewart had his live special, it was not looking good.
The next morning, it looked even worse.
I’ve often said in this column that America would never elect a woman president. Sadly, I was right again.
I don’t understand how we, as a country, could look joy and happiness in the face and say, “You know, I think I want doom and gloom instead.” It may be yet another result of the pandemic. We may have turned into a country of resentful arrogance rather than a country willing to embrace any and all of our citizens.
He’s already told us what he wants to do: a nationwide abortion ban that also........
