Q: My sister and I still live at home with our mom, and we’ve been talking about what to do for her this Mother’s Day. I’m in my second year at university and work part time on weekends, so my budget is pretty tight right now. My sister is finishing Grade 12 and has been really consistent with her part-time job all year, so she’s got more to spend. She wants to treat Mom to something special and is happy to put in more than me because she knows how busy my school year has been. That part doesn’t bother me at all, and I think it’s really sweet. But I still want to contribute something meaningful, and I feel a little unsure about what to do when we’re working with such different budgets. Our mom is genuinely the kind of person who values time and experiences just as much as anything you could buy her, so I know she won’t measure what we give by what it costs. I just want to make sure we’re being thoughtful and not letting the money difference make things awkward. Any advice on how we can pull this off together? ~Mia
