The Fulton County Sheriff’s office is attempting to find the “good Samaritans” who stopped to help during Monday’s fatal boat-personal watercraft collision on the Great Sacandaga Lake.
The good Samaritans were operating a red, or red and black, vessel, officials said.
“If anyone knows who they are or if they themselves could call the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office at 518-736-2100 and press 6 for Investigations we would appreciate it,” a press release reads.
Officials also ask that anyone who witnessed the incident and who has not spoken with investigators to contact that number.
The crash killed 21-year-old Grace Clark, a graduate of Schalmont High School in Rotterdam.
Clark, who was born in Texas, died when the personal watercraft she was operating crashed into the boat near the Broadalbin Boat Launch at about 6:15 p.m., Monday, officials said.
A passenger on her watercraft, identified as Caleb Cummings, 29, of Schoharie County, was taken to Albany Medical Center for injuries he suffered in the crash. He remained hospitalized Tuesday, officials said.
No one on the boat was hurt, officials said.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Clark was operating the watercraft when it collided with a pontoon boat traveling at about 20 mph, officials said. The speed of the personal watercraft remained under investigation.
The operator of the boat, as well as the boat passengers and Cummings, have been cooperative, officials said.
There was no indication of alcohol or other drug involvement on the part of the boat operator.
The accident reconstruction was ongoing and an autopsy was completed Tuesday. Results from the autopsy will include a blood screen from the victim, officials said Tuesday.
The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, together with New York State Environmental Conservation, New York State Police, its dive team, and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating the accident.
They were assisted at the scene by the Broadalbin-Kenyetto Fire Department, Tri-County Swift Water Rescue Team, the Mayfield, Northville, Hope, and Edinburg fire departments, Lake Valley Ambulance, Fulton County EMO, Fulton County EMS Coordinator, and the Fulton County Communications Division coordinating the dispatching of multiple agencies for the incident.

Berkowitz-Reyes has been homeschooled since the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2020, forcing school districts to transition to remote learning. In light of the highly contagious © The Leader Herald
