EDITORIAL: Mask ban is still a bad idea
“Less bad” doesn’t make it good.
Once again, New York state lawmakers are offering a solution that doesn’t match the problem, by proposing a new ban on the wearing of masks.
This is the second time within a year they’ve tried to unmask citizens in the name of public safety.
Last year, they used a rash of subway muggings and college protests over the war in Gaza to try to justify a ban on the wearing of facial coverings in public, saying that people committing crimes were using masks to hide their identities.
They failed to consider that people wear masks for reasons other than mugging people and robbing banks.
Covid, flu and other airborne illnesses are on the rise, and many seniors and those with medical conditions use masks to protect themselves and others. Many people also wear masks for religious reasons, for work or to keep........
