Lawmakers must act to reduce plastic
Fact — plastic pollution is harming our health and our environment -- this is no longer up for debate.
As the 2026 New York state legislative session begins in January, lawmakers have a critical opportunity to act.
Two proposed bills, the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act and the modernized Bottle Bill, are essential steps toward reducing plastic in our homes and communities.
We need the Assembly to pass these bills this year. It is time for our representatives to stand with the people who elected them.
Most New Yorkers are aware of the hazards of plastic, yet our hands are tied, and we often have no choice but to buy food and beverages packaged in it. These bills would help ensure we have safer, healthier alternatives and less plastic exposure in our daily lives.
We count on our elected officials to make........
