When you’re counting your blessings for Thanksgiving, take a moment to be thankful that you all made it to your destination safely.

Then be thankful again on Friday and on Saturday and on Sunday when it happens again.

Not everyone will be so fortunate.

For many, the long Thanksgiving holiday will be spent sitting in a hospital waiting room or staring at a phone willing it to ring with good news. And many will spend the holiday crying over the death or serious injury of a spouse or child or parent or sibling or friend.

We say this not to depress you, but to warn you.
