Anybody see the weather forecast for the next few days? Let’s just say you’ll be able to count the degrees on one frost-bitten hand.

Let’s hope the governor and state legislators saw that forecast. It might remind them how expensive it is for New York state residents — particularly senior citizens and the poor — to heat their homes in harsh New York winters.

The thought of people choosing between paying their bills and feeding their families might compel them to take action to rein in utility prices, tighten oversight, expand energy capacity and make the entire system more efficient.
