Kenny Archer: Time to tweak the All-Ireland SFC format for more fairness

AS with comedy, the secret of a great sporting championship is timing.

As with comedy, sometimes some don’t find matters funny, instead feeling that the joke is on them.

The All-Ireland senior football championship is very good, very enjoyable again this year, thanks in no small part to the new rules brought in by the Football Review Committee.

But – with me being the Sir Mix-a-Lot of columnists, you knew there was going to be a ‘but’, and a big one at that – it remains a flawed format.

GAA on TV: What games are on TV this weekend, and on which channel can I watch them?

Donegal v Mayo: Match details, throw-in time, how to watch and ticket info as Ulster champions look to stay in the race for Sam

Why?

The timing, of course.

Not the split season. That’s been pretty positive, not least because it allows the likes of me to go on holiday........
