Trump teases Lincoln Memorial ‘promenade’

President Trump unveiled plans Thursday for a new pedestrian “promenade” connecting the Lincoln Memorial to the Potomac River, the latest in a series of high-profile projects aimed at reshaping some of Washington’s most recognizable landmarks.

“We’re going to call it the promenade. They want to call it the Trump Promenade, but I don’t know if I want to do that. But it’s going to be beautiful,” the president told reporters at the White House.

“It’s a beautiful project, and it’s going to take the Lincoln Memorial right down to the Potomac,” he added, later describing it as a long-awaited addition to the monument.

No details about cost, timeline or design were revealed.

The announcement came as work wraps up on the controversial overhaul of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Water began filling the pool on Wednesday after work crews repainted the basin with what the Trump administration called “American flag blue”........
