Trump agrees to speak to Iran’s interim leadership: The Atlantic
President Trump on Sunday reportedly said he has agreed to speak to Iran’s new leadership after the U.S. and Israel’s joint strikes killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the country’s supreme leader, on Saturday.
“They want to talk, and I have agreed to talk, so I will be talking to them. They should have done it sooner. They should have given what was very practical and easy to do sooner. They waited too long,” Trump told The Atlantic’s Michael Scherer in a Sunday morning interview, declining to state the timing of any call.
Earlier Sunday, Iran named its interim leadership team as Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Guardian Council jurist member Ayatollah Alireza Arafi and Gholam Hossein Mohseni Eje’i, the head of the Iranian judiciary.
