GOP blocks war power limits again — where are the checks and balances

For the fourth time since the conflict with Iran began, Senate Republicans blocked an effort to limit President Trump’s war powers — essentially choosing, again, not to force a clearer line between executive authority and congressional oversight.

And here’s the thing about war powers debates in Washington. They often sound procedural, but what’s actually at stake is very real: who decides when America goes to war, how long it lasts, and how much it costs.

On paper, this is about a resolution. In reality, it’s about whether Congress is willing to assert its constitutional role at all. Do something, anything to be sure the president doesn’t continue to make decisions about conflict without engaging them.

We’re now weeks into a war with no clearly defined endgame. Oil prices have surged, global shipping routes are under pressure, and the Pentagon is reportedly preparing a $200 billion funding request. That’s not a small, abstract number. That’s taxpayer money tied to a war that lawmakers themselves admit they don’t fully understand.

Even inside........
