Jill Biden to release memoir, ‘View from the East Wing’

Jill Biden is giving her perspective from a since-demolished part of the White House, with the former first lady penning a memoir called “View from the East Wing.”

In the book, announced Wednesday, Biden will share “her White House experiences for the first time, in her own words,” publisher Gallery Books said.

“She reflects on the Biden presidency and its impact on her family. She brings you behind the scenes, from Camp David to Air Force One, from grading papers in the Rose Garden to witnessing the abrupt end of her husband’s bid for reelection,” the publisher said in promotional materials regarding Biden, who worked as a professor at a community college while her husband was in office.

Then-President Biden dropped out of the White House race just four months before the 2024 election following concerns about his physical and mental acuity after a disastrous presidential debate against President Trump.

Ahead of his exit from the race, critics had questioned Jill Biden’s role in her husband’s reelection bid and the campaign’s decision-making process.

In an interview with the Associated Press about her book, 74-year-old Biden said writing the memoir was “cathartic.”

“I wrote about all the, you know, sometimes painful — but other times, most of it really beautiful moments that Joe and I shared during his presidency,” she said.

Biden said the book was a “reflection of my four years as first lady.”

The title of the book references the East Wing of the White House, where the first lady’s office and staff have traditionally been located.

Trump ordered the East Wing demolished last year in order to construct a $300 million White House ballroom. The ballroom plans have been highly controversial, including over their damage to the current White House structure, but the National Capital Planning Commission has a vote set for early next month to approve them.

“View from the East Wing” is poised to be released on June 2.
