2 college students among 6 injured in Illinois shooting

NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) – Six people, including two college students, were hospitalized after an early Sunday morning shooting in Normal, Illinois.

Normal Police were called to the 700 block of Franklin Avenue shortly before 3 a.m., said Police Chief Steve Petrili.

When officers arrived, they found two men, two women, and two juveniles with apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and took them to the hospital, he said.

Campus police confirmed two of the victims are students at Illinois State University. The shooting happened a short distance from the school’s campus.

According to a Facebook post by the Illinois State University Police Department, two of the victims are ISU students.

Crime scene tape could still be seen in the area, which appeared to be near an apartment building, Nexstar’s WMBD reported Sunday.

Petrili said the incident “appears to be isolated,” but no arrests have been announced.

The shooting remains under investigation, and no further information has been made available.
