Pentagon’s watchdog named as Iran war lead inspector

The Pentagon’s top watchdog was named as the lead inspector who will probe the U.S.’s war with Iran, the Defense Department’s Office of Inspector General announced on Wednesday. 

Cheryl L. Mason, the chair of the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency, designated the Pentagon’s Inspector General, Platte B. Moring III, to be the lead government watchdog in the review of the Trump administration’s Operation Epic Fury. 

Moring, who was confirmed as the Pentagon’s inspector general (IG) in December last year, will oversee the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the State Department in reviewing the three-month conflict. 

The review is necessary, as the Inspector General Act necessitates the naming of an lead inspector general when a U.S. military action surpasses 60 days.
