Conservative YouTuber criticized over pushing ‘Jewish invasion’ in New Jersey video

A YouTube personality popular on the political right is facing pushback for promoting a video from another online influencer purporting to expose what it calls a “Jewish invasion” in New Jersey.

Nick Shirley, who has risen to prominence on social media in recent months highlighting what he argues is fraud and abuse of taxpayer dollars by immigrants, replied to another YouTube influencer late last month writing “expose it all.”

The video Shirley was replying to was produced by Tyler Oliveira, who said he had just published a more than hour long documentary “on New Jersey’s Jewish Invasion.”

Oliveira’s video focused on Lakewood, New Jersey, and featured scenes of the YouTuber clashing with members of the prominent Jewish community there over his accusations of welfare abuse and telling them to “go back to Israel.”

“The replies to this tweet show the double standards and hypocrisy of half of the “republican influencer” space,” Oliveira wrote in response to Shirley’s tweet promoting his video. “Does welfare abuse / fraud only suck when it’s a Somali? Ask your local ‘MAGA Republican influencer’ where he draws the line.”

Shirley first made a name for himself in the conservative influencer space by documenting what he and other Republicans have alleged is widespread fraud and abuse of taxpayer dollars by Somali immigrants in Minnesota.

Vice President J.D. Vance has referenced Shirley’s work in the past, writing in one social media post he “has done far more useful journalism than any of the winners of the 2024 Pulitzer Prizes.”

“As I said before, the GOP has a massive Nazi problem,” the prominent right-wing influencer Laura Loomer said replying to the video.

The Daily Beast highlighted a number of other social media posts pushing back on Shirley and Oliveira over the video, including one from twitch streamer Hasan Piker who wrote “they loved these guys when they were “investigating” “haitians eating cats & dogs,” or “somalis doing fraud” but now they go after jewish enclaves w the same substandard racial agitprop and everyone that cheered them on are losing their minds!”

Shirley pushed back on the criticism and brushed away suggestions he was supporting anti-Semitic content.

“Calling me a Nazi is the furthest thing from the truth. I’m simply anti-fraud,” Shirley replied. “If anything Tyler’s video creates conversation about how our welfare system operates whether you think it’s fraud or not.”
