Jeanine Pirro has finally admitted the truth about the reflecting pool

The saga of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool may seem insignificant compared to the litany of other lurid and despotic actions by President Trump and his allies. But the story, all about corruption, falsehoods and the abuse of power, needs to be told.   

Begin with Trump’s boast back in April that the Reflecting Pool would be “restored to all its glory” after what he said was poor management by Presidents Obama and Biden. He hired cronies with no-bid contracts to install a water purification system and line the bottom of the pool in American flag blue. The cost of the renovation was $1.5 million. But as many observers noted, the liner materials soon began to peel and bubble, algae bloomed, and the water turned a dirty green. The repair cost ballooned to over $16 million.

In early June, Trump became frantic that the renovation would not be finished in time for America’s 250th July 4 celebration. Then, on June 19, former Olympian David Hearn was arrested for destruction of property after he reached down to touch a strip of the peeling blue paint. Immediately the Trump frenzy machine revved up, screaming that it wasn’t shoddy workmanship — it was vandals who had desecrated this sacred monument. Trump described the vandalism vividly, as a “350-foot gash” in the liner made with knives. He produced no photos or other evidence to support his accusation. A fence went up around the pool and repair work continued secretly. 

Joining in the frenzy was the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro, who parroted Trump’s incendiary rhetoric.
