Nate Silver: Latest Maine Senate poll ‘not super reassuring’ for Platner

Analyst Nate Silver on Wednesday questioned Democrat Graham Platner’s chances of beating Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) in November, citing a recent poll that showed a decrease in his lead over the incumbent. 

A new poll released Wednesday by Public Policy Polling found Platner with a 4 percentage point lead over Collins, reflecting a weakening in his projected support from previous surveys. 

“An internal poll showing 4 is not super reassuring given that internal polls typically exaggerate their candidate’s standing by 4 points or so,” Silver wrote in a Wednesday post on the social platform X.

“And that’s smaller than Platner’s lead in most public polls before,” he added.
