Hezbollah rejects latest ceasefire brokered by Israel, Lebanon
Hezbollah on Thursday rejected the latest U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, which will create “pilot zones” in which Beirut will work to drive out the militant group.
Hezbollah’s leader, Naim Kassem, described the ceasefire as “absurd, humiliating, and insulting” while urging Israel to withdraw from southern Lebanon entirely, according to The Associated Press.
Kassem said, “So long as our villages are not safe and are being bombed and destroyed and our people are killed,” northern Israel “will not be safe,” in written remarks read out on television Thursday.
Lebanese authorities say 1.2 million people have been forced to flee their homes as a result of Israel’s strikes, noting that five people, including a U.N. peacekeeper, were killed in attacks on Thursday, Reuters reported.
