People in glass shithouses ... shouldn't open the window?

What about "Shithouse Stadium That We Have"?

With Ricky's permission, I'm suggesting we whack his post-match comments from last night onto number plates, or at the very least the green Canberra Raiders ones.

While we've tried all manner of ways to project our city positively onto the national stage, maybe it's time for a bit of tongue-in-cheek?

Maybe we'll shame the feds into sending a bit of cash this way, given governments of both stripes have funded stadiums just about everywhere else. Federal Labor might rescue its territory counterparts who've had this albatross around their necks for a couple of decades now.

To be honest, I didn't earn my badge of honour sitting in the bucketing rain last night, but kudos to those who did.

They saw a gripping match, which unfortunately didn't fall our way, but they also endured spectacularly bad conditions.

I forwarded to reporter Melanie Dinjaski some vision a friend had sent me of cascading water coming off a worryingly soggy section of stadium roof.

Mel later captured images of visiting coach Cameron Ciraldo's badly sliced hand, a result of him apparently trying to open a window in a fogged-up coaching box.

He has been described in some reports as "thrusting" his hand at the glass, which sounds reminiscent of a memorable moment of anger by another visiting coach, but who's to really know amidst the fog of Thursday night footy?

Before heading off to get stitches, Ciraldo spoke generously of Canberra but said "you can't have stuff like that happening...you deserve better".

Thanks for your good grace Cameron, but, seriously, what an embarrassment.

In, on our behalf, stepped the territory's diplomat-in-chief.

"There's no good whingeing about it, because the people you've got to whinge to don't give a shit," Ricky Stuart said.

"They don't care about the nation's capital having the shithouse stadium that we have."

Onya Rick!, I can hear thousands of footy fans saying today.

I'll be heading out to the "shithouse stadium that we have" tonight, along with what I hope is a respectable crowd, to celebrate the incredible endurance of James Slipper. The ACT Brumbies prop is playing his 203rd Super Rugby game, setting a new record for most outings. (Caden Helmers' piece on him today is a great read for rugby fans).

Slipper deserves better than a change room with a wheelie bin in it to catch the rain. Or to have to inhale the regular stench of sewerage in the players' tunnel.

Ricky Stuart's plucky young Raiders - last year's minor premiers - deserve better.

And, as the man with the bleeding hand said last night, we deserve better.
