DFW Airport’s Planned Muslim Ablution Stations Draw Congressional Criticism

A newly uncovered document from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shows that Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport will install dedicated Muslim ablution stations at a cost of $300,000.

The project includes two stations in Terminal D.

“[The] project consists of adding Ablution stations to existing concourse level restrooms in Terminal D, one Men’s ablution station in existing men’s restroom and one Women’s ablution station in the existing women’s restroom,” the document states.

Wudu, or ablution, is an Islamic ritual of purification performed before daily prayers. Wudu stations are specialized plumbing fixtures that feature low-level basins for washing the feet and seating that allows individuals to comfortably wash their hands, face, and arms.

According to the project document, the installation costs $300,000 and is privately funded. The document also shows that the accommodation was registered with Texas regulators on July 31 and is expected to be completed by Dec. 31, 2026.

After the project gained national attention, Republican U.S. Rep. Keith Self, writing on X, said it was only the beginning of a broader effort.
