RON HART: Mistaking Activism For Entertainment

If you skipped the Oscars to sort your laundry, you made the right call. I can sum up the woke show for you. If you separated the dark clothes from the whites before you washed them, you are a segregationist and racist.

With Iran supposedly targeting Los Angeles, there was extra tension at this year’s self-congratulatory extravaganza, the Oscars. Rumor was that Iran’s tyrannical regime would attack the Oscars with drones. No way, I say. Even the Las Vegas Raiders would never harm their cheerleaders. Boring and self-absorbed, the Oscars presentation may have even saved the injured nepo-Ayatollah Jr. As he lay in a half coma in an Iranian hospital bed, the Oscars was on TV. It was so bad that somewhere around the award for best casting in an animated short, he woke up and changed the channel.

It must be hard for Ayatollah Jr. to wake up to see that your military and weapons have been destroyed and that the world has been told that you are gay. That might be psy-ops by Israel, or it might be true. But under strict Muslim doctrine, they throw gays off buildings over there. It is not good to be identified as gay.  Everything in Iran must be said to be straight — even Hormuz.

On the bright side, there are not too many tall building left in Iran to throw him off. The Ayatollah may or may not be gay, it does not matter to me. But in his country, it should matter to him. He may have not watched the Oscars, but the real litmus test on the gay thing is whether he watches the Tonys.

Being gay has to make this whole Islamic martyr thing, where you get 72 female virgins when you die, less meaningful. What is he going to do with them? Take them to brunch and go shopping?

Wearing “No ICE” buttons, high school-educated “stars” lecture us on politics. And geopolitics. I will consider their views, but I think I will wait to see what the drummer for Third Eye Blind says before I make up my mind this November. The Oscar nominees were predictable, and the movies were very left-wing and formulaic. The themes were F-ICE, pro-Iran, free Palestine and Trump is a racist. It was clear early on that it was not going to be Vanilla Ice’s night.

It was good the alleged Iranian drone attack hovered around the Oscars.  The show has not been that memorable since Will Smith sucker-slapped Chris Rock over a joke in an assault with 19 million witnesses. Yet under California law, the Fresh Prince was given five years’ probation from the Oscars and sent to live with his uncle and auntie in Bel Air.

Obligatory virtue signaling abounded. It’s bad when leftists turn on other leftists. Bill Maher said on his show Real Time, “Hollywood isn’t a secret cabal of racists. It’s a secret cabal of people terrified of looking like racists.”

For an industry reliant on free speech, most Hollywood “elites” are not only intolerant; they seek to personally destroy anyone whose opinion differs. You could not say all lives matter, that a man couldn’t have a baby, men should not play women’s sports, global warming is not a threat, that maybe we should not defund the police and maybe Trump is not a Russian agent. And with this list of beliefs, we are to take them seriously?

Most of the leaders of these groups of vigilante bullies, including late-show hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Steven Colbert, and George Clooney, Ellen DeGeneres, Ben Affleck, Robert De Niro, Rosie O’Donnell, etc. are all either very angry or asleep. Celebrity stars who love to preach inclusion and tolerance had no problem celebrating another awards-show political moment aimed less at entertaining the audience than reminding everyone in the room how morally enlightened they believe themselves to be. They segregate themselves from us as “A-list-ers.” Yet most are D-bags.

The result: Oscar ratings are way down from a high of 57 million viewers in 1998, when Titanic won, to just below 18 million this past Sunday. I have this buddy who hosts an annual Oscar party at his home. We stopped going. Even he had to hire seat fillers.

To the Iranian drones allegedly trying to destroy L.A., Gavin Newsom is way ahead of ya. And a piece of advice to Hollywood-bound sleeper cells: You’re not going anywhere in that town until you get a head shot and a good agent.
