Pro golfer Nico Echavarria announced Sunday that he will do one of the most American things with the $1.728 million in winnings he bagged at the Cognizant Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Echavarria, who hails from Colombia but currently lives in South Florida, secured his third PGA Tour win after Irish golfer Shane Lowry tragically suffered a blow-up for the ages.
“It was a blessing today,” Echavarria told reporters. “I didn’t have my best off the tee, but I was able to manage. I had some good breaks. To win out here, sometimes you have to have good breaks if you’re not Scottie Scheffler that hits it every time in the perfect place. So, I’m happy with how it went.” (RELATED: Golf Is A Real B*tch. Echavarria also announced that he and his wife would be getting a dog, something he promised her once he won his third tour event, and hinted that the cash would go toward paying off a house he recently bought in South Florida. “I was hitting the ball good, and here we are,” Echavarria said. “We’re getting a dog.”
And what is more American than that?
Buying a new puppy and paying off your mortgage. That’s the American dream, in a nutshell. Marriage, a couple of kids, a dog, and a nice home in southern Florida. Also, the ability to play golf year-round.
