Cynthia Erivo Desperately Tries To Stay Relevant In Unhinged Interview

Cynthia Erivo told Variety she wasn’t interested in talking about “Wicked” anymore during a chaotic interview mostly about … “Wicked.”

The actress veered off into a wild conversation about why she decided not to campaign for an Oscar for “Wicked: For Good” as well as perceptions about her role in an interview published May 27. She also retold the story of how she fended off an overzealous fan who came after co-star Ariana Grande at Universal Studios Singapore in November 2025. Erivo had a lot to say about the viral moment and how her participation in the film was allegedly perceived.

“We’re really going to try to get one from ‘Wicked,’ aren’t we?” the actress asked while being presented questions. “Do you mind if I do another question that isn’t about ‘Wicked’ because I feel like I’ve spent the last two years talking about it and I think that we have the opportuinity to start talking about something else. Is that okay?”
