A fortnight ago, I joined our Prime Minister, Keir Starmer and other members of the cabinet in London for a discussion about the challenges facing our country and the urgency with which we need to act to fix the problems we inherited.

The message from the PM to his top team of MPs couldn’t have been clearer: every day in Government is a day for us to fight for the change in our country that we were elected to deliver.

Our discussions made me think about the similarities between my own journey to being the MP for Swindon South and Keir’s journey to becoming Prime Minister.

Both of us from working class families where hard work was instilled in us from a young age.
