More than 200 Ofcom complaints have been lodged against the hit ITV soap opera Emmerdale because of "uncomfortable" scenes aired before the watershed.

The television regulator revealed that around 279 complaints were made against an episode last week because of scenes showing Vinny being horrifically attacked.

Vinny faced a homophobic attack from a man called Mike, whom he had met up with after they connected on a dating site.
