EastEnders fans have called on a "brilliant" character to make a return to Albert Square 27 years after her last appearance.

Viewers were eager for the return of Gita Kapoor (played by Shobu Kapoor) after leaving the soap in 1998.

She left the show after she and her family were caught up in a local scandal, forcing them to leave London in search of a new life.

Recently, Gita was mentioned by her former best friend Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins), leaving many hopeful of her return.

Taking to r/EastEnders on Reddit, one fan of the BBC show asked: "What are the chances we’ll get to see another 90’s favourite [Gita Kapoor] return?
