Celebrity chef Tyler Florence abandons downtown SF cafes

One of San Francisco’s most famous chefs unexpectedly closed a downtown pastry shop without any advanced notice this past week.
Tyler Florence, the Food Network TV star and chef-owner of Miller & Lux and Wayfare Tavern, stepped away from Miller & Lux Provisions, including both the patisserie and temporarily closed sister cafe known for rotisserie chicken that were located at Union Square plaza, as first reported by the San Francisco Examiner.

The sudden closure comes less than two years after he received a sizable grant to help efforts to revive downtown. Following the abrupt closures, city officials scrambled to find a replacement ahead of the big NBA All-Star Weekend and Lunar New Year Parade, and they found a willing candidate in b. Patisserie, a James Beard Award-winning bakery known for pastries and tartines. SFGATE reached out to Florence but did not hear back in time for publication.
