Plan to open private school near San Francisco's Chase Center moves forward

An international private school network was given the green light to move forward with a plan to open its first U.S. campus near Chase Center and the Mission Bay campus of UC San Francisco. 

Hiba Academy, a prekindergarten through fifth grade school run by the Wellington College Education group, is expected to be at 99 Rhode Island St., a building that’s previously housed several San Francisco tech companies, including a former Airbnb headquarters. On Monday, the Land Use and Transportation Committee of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors recommended approving the school’s plan to transform the building in the Showplace Square neighborhood into the new campus.

The plan still needs final approval from the full board at its next meeting, scheduled for Feb. 4, Nate Galvan, a spokesperson for Hiba Academy, told SFGATE.........
