As “Wicked” marches toward the Academy Awards, Bay Area-born director Jon Chu is already fielding questions on one of his next projects, an upcoming Britney Spears biopic.

“I’m a big fan of Britney. I’ve been a fan since I was young and she was young,” Chu said to Billboard.com from the Golden Globes red carpet. “... So I want to do her justice and tell her story right. But we’ll see. We’re developing it now and it’s a long road ahead.”

The film is slated to be based on Spears’ 2023 memoir, “The Woman in Me,” and Chu has indicated Spears will be a key consultant on the film.
